An elderly man from Winterthur lost several hundred thousand francs after a brutal scam, according to the Zurich cantonal police.
The 74-year-old guy was called several times by fraudsters posing as police officers or from the prosecutor’s office. They forced him to hand over the money after being told that his daughter had been arrested.
The man followed their instructions due to the shock of the situation, leading to several transfers over the course of two days.
Police warn against the temptation to make rash decisions under pressure and advise that you end the phone call immediately if you are unsure and call your local police.
