The leader of the MeRA25 opposition party, Yanis Varoufakis, called for the dismissal of Civil Defense Minister Takis Theodorikakas in statements to reporters on Friday after testifying to an investigator regarding the attack on him in Exarchia.
“Mr. Theodorikakos had the audacity two hours before the first eyewitness testimony to leak and make the statements he caught [those responsible]. In effect, he appointed himself the investigating magistrate, prosecutor, judge and jury. At some point it has to stop. In no European country does a minister replace justice… he is dangerous for democracy,” Varoufakis said.
The secretary of MeRA25 confirmed that he had given evidence regarding the attack on him and would now allow justice to proceed.
He also criticized police actions during demonstrations in Athens on Thursday, accusing Theodorikakas of “not shying away from creating conditions of violence purely for electoral reasons”.
