Proposed Crossing of Lake Geneva (c) Santiago Calatrava

Perhaps the idea of a new lake crossing is not dead yet.

A document published by the Federal Council last week mentions the idea of a new transition. Many thought the idea had been scrapped and were surprised to see it included in the Federal Highway Administration document.

Although voters gave the green light to the crossing seven years ago, the CHF 5 billion cost means nothing has happened yet.

In response, Geneva’s infrastructure minister, Serge Dal Busco, says this is an encouraging sign and they will give the road department a dossier on the transition in 2025.

Many commentators say that just because a crossover has been mentioned doesn’t mean it’s any closer to happening.
