Rua de Alexandre Braga will be closed to traffic from this Monday the 14th. On this day, work begins to transform this street around Bolhão market into a pedestrian street.
The contract, awarded by the municipal company GO Porto, will allow the pedestrianization of Rua de Alexandre Braga. The project is part of the municipal plan for the pedestrian zone of the historic center of Porto.
The intervention involves the prohibition of traffic, except for loads, unloading and access to garages, on Rue de Alexandre Braga, according to the signs that will be installed in place.
Located at the source of the village Bolhao market, reopened on September 15and parallel to Rua de Santa Catarina, Rua de Alexandre Braga will become a facility "minimal" work, explained to JN the member of the city council for urbanism and public space, Pedro Baganha. “Basically, it will be the transformation of the carriageway, placing it at the level of attractions. We will keep the Portuguese sidewalk, but the asphalt will be removed and replaced by a senate granite cube similar to the one on Avenida dos Aliados,” he added.
Thanks to the construction of an underground tunnel to access Bolhão’s logistics basement, this street had an “appetite to be more peaceful, friendly for pedestrians and commerce”, concluded Pedro Bagaña.
