What was supposed to be a high-tech way to avoid traffic in Geneva seems to still be stuck in development mode.
On the eve of summer, several large electronic road signs were installed around the city. The idea is that they will alert drivers in real-time when roads are slow so they can choose a different route and keep traffic moving.
Tests were carried out over the summer to highlight the issues – the screens have been dark ever since.
The infrastructure department says the project is turning out to be more difficult than expected and the canton has to come up with a special solution.
It is assumed that the system will be operational by January.
