A new milestone has been achieved at the new £16m Premier Inn in York.
The timber-framed building is being built on a four-storey, 188-bedroom building at the former Carpetright store in Layerthorpe.
The scheme, off Fosse Islands Road, promises some of the latest energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies, aimed at cutting carbon emissions by 44% over traditional building methods.
These include air source heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation systems, LED lighting, photovoltaic panels and electric vehicle charging points.
The development incorporates a void under the floor as part of flood mitigation measures and features a hot-rolled steel frame podium on the ground floor with a timber frame solution on the upper floors.
Lyndon Bowler, Contracts Manager at Clegg Construction, based in Nottingham, said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone in the development of our Premier Inn in York.
“The Clegg Construction team is now looking forward to the next phase of the project, delivering this attractively designed new hotel with minimal disruption to local businesses and residents.”
The project, which is due to be completed by the end of 2023, will be the fourth Premier Inn scheme delivered by Clegg.
