House of the Dragon is a prequel to the popular show Game of Throneswhich takes place 200 years before the main show and focuses on House Targaryen and its many dragons.
A spin-off based on the 2018 book by novelist George RR Martin Fire and blooduses familiar places with Game of Thrones such as Dragonstone (home of the Targaryen family) and King’s Landing, where King Viserys sits on the Iron Throne.
While the original series focused on the Starks, the Baratheons, and the Lannisters, they have featured prominently in the series by now, as the Targaryens dominated the earth and skies during the time the series takes place.
House of the Dragon boasts a star-studded lineup, including ex Doctor Who star Matt Smith, Paddy Considine as King Viserys and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.
How many episodes are left?
Seven episodes so far House of the Dragon were broadcast on HBO.
Around £20 million was spent on each episode with high quality CGI and massive action scenes – just like its predecessor.
The most recent, under the name Drift signcame out last Sunday.
There are three episodes left in this series, with the first episode ending with the title episode Black Queen.
UK viewers can watch new episodes on Sky Atlantic.
Not much is known about how the first series will end, but later seasons of Game of Thrones have usually ended with large-scale battles.
Will there be a second season?
Shortly after the first season aired on HBO, the broadcaster confirmed that a second season was in development.
This happened just days after the first episode aired with the official announcement House of the Dragon Twitter.
Francesco Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said: “Our phenomenal cast and crew have taken on a tremendous challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see television.
“We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing the epic saga of House Targaryen to life in season two.”
There has been no further news on when the second season will begin filming or when it will be televised.
What happened to Millie Alcock
Young Australian actress Millie Alcock was considered by many fans to be one of the bright stars of the first season.
The 22-year-old played the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first few episodes, taking the show by storm with her screen presence and speech.
But after five episodes, the series made a time jump and aged Renire, now played by Emma D’Arcy.
The show’s writers have confirmed that Alcock will not appear in the second season – and there has been no indication that she will appear in a flashback.
