Investigations are continuing following a major drug seizure at Shannon Airport this Friday.

In the course of routine operations and with the help of the detection dog Harley, tax officials confiscated about 2.5 kg of cannabis grass.

Illegal drugs with an estimated street value of €50,000 were found in a parcel originating from the United States and destined for an address in County Galway.

A spokesman for the Department of Revenue says the seizure was part of its ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.

“If businesses or members of the public have any information about smuggling, they can contact the Department of Revenue confidentially on the confidential telephone number 1800 295 295,” the spokesman said.

Police have been informed of the seizure and investigations are ongoing.
