TWO people escaped with minor injuries after their small plane crashed in the Muchamel area of ​​Alicante province on Wednesday afternoon.

Their two-seater ship ended up next to the CV-800 Xixona Road near the Riodel Industrial Zone.

The pilot and his passenger were from Bilbao and Vitoria in the Basque Country.

They took part in aerobic sports trials all over Spain and aimed to land at the nearby Muchamel Aeroclub.

The control tower of the club lost visual and radio contact with the plane.

Police said the two men showed great skill in landing the plane, causing minimal injury to themselves and avoiding others.

Medics treated men aged 55 and 63 who were taken to San Juan de Alicante Hospital with head injuries.

The plane was seriously damaged, and there is still no clear information on the cause of the crash.
