Scotland’s renewable energy and hydrogen sectors will be showcased at the major international exhibition Hannover Messe Expo.
Scottish Development International has confirmed it will lead Scotland’s presence at the five-day Hannover Messe Integrated Energy Expo in April 2023 following the UK Government’s decision not to take part.
The expo is one of the largest events of its kind in Europe, attracting about 1,800 exhibitors.
The event provides a platform to reach a global audience, create new opportunities and build business relationships. Expo 2019 generated £27 million in export sales for Scottish exhibitors.
Trade, Investment and Innovation Minister Ivan Mackie said: “Securing Scotland’s presence at Hannover Messe allows us to build on our existing relationships with trading partners and showcase Scotland’s world-leading strengths in renewable energy at one of the largest exhibitions of its kind in Europe. .
“Helping Scottish companies to expand and compete globally is a key part of the Scottish Government’s ‘Trading Nation’ export growth plan. It is especially important that we shine a light on industries and technologies that play a role in the energy transition, such as the development of green hydrogen that can be used globally to combat climate change.
“Global events like Hannover Messe are even more important after Brexit. Our trade relationship with the European Union remains central both now and in the future.
“Scotland already has strong links with Lower Saxony and North West Germany and this is an opportunity to build on these relationships and showcase our expertise to other national governments and agencies as well as private companies.”
Scottish Enterprise’s Interim Global Trade Director Ian Robertson said: “Supporting innovative Scottish companies in the energy and low carbon transition sectors to expand and grow through exports is a priority for Scottish Enterprise and our international division SDI.
“Hannover Messe is one of the largest and most significant trade fairs for industrial transformation, with a strong focus on topics such as hydrogen and fuel cells, as well as carbon-neutral production and energy supply. Scotland has significant experience in these sectors, so our presence at Hannover Messe will open up potential trade opportunities for Scottish firms, as well as helping the global journey towards a just energy transition.”
Hanover exhibition is one of the world’s largest industrial fairs with exhibitors from technology and industrial sectors including energy, automation, research and development and engineering. It will be held from April 17 to 21, 2023.
The Scottish presence at Hannover Messe will be led Scottish International Development (SDI), the international arm of the Scottish Government and Business Agencies Scotland. SDI was previously present at the 2019 event, where seven of the nine companies predicted new business opportunities resulting from screening potential customers identified at the show.
