Leeds have signed American midfielder Tyler Adams RB Leipzig on a five-year deal for a fee that could reach £20m with add-ons and then bought Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord.
The Sinisterra deal is worth €25m (£22.3m) plus add-ons and took Leeds’ summer spending to more than £90m, although £45m was repaid this week via sales by Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.
Adams and Sinisterra are both 23 years old, and the oldest of their six signings is Mark Rocco at 25. Adams reunited with Leeds boss Jesse Marsh after spells under him at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig.
Adams made 38 appearances for Leipzig last season, including five in the Champions League. He made his Major League Soccer debut for New York Red Bulls as a teenager under Marsh in 2016 and moved to Europe in 2019 with Leipzig, where Marsh was assistant to Ralf Rangnick before taking on a senior role.
Adams, who made 103 appearances for Leipzig and has 29 caps, is the third player to support Marsh at Elland Road. Attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson – also a US international – and right-back Rasmus Christensen arrived from another of Marsh’s former clubs, Red Bull Salzburg. Rocco moved from Bayern Munich, and 18-year-old Darko Gabi from Manchester City.
Sinisterro scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 49 appearances for Feyenoord last season and is a likely replacement for Rafinha. Chelsea agreed a £55m for Rafinha last week only the Brazilian winger said that he prefers to move to Barcelona. It remains to be seen whether Barca, which has been gripped by a major financial crisis, will be able to agree to the fee.
