Bakery firm Greggs is advancing its plans to open a restaurant with a driveway to Stoke-on-Trent. A popular seller of sausage rolls has taken a prominent place in the Springfields retail park, in Trent Valeafter KFC came out.

KFC abandoned plans to move to the site nearly two years after obtaining planning permission Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Developer VIP (Group) Ltd wanted Gregs to take his place, but the resolution expired in December.

Now the company has submitted a new application so that it can continue to develop. The Greggs division will create 15 jobs – three full-time and 12 part-time.

The bakery, which will belong to the restaurant, will be open from 6 am to midnight – similar to the neighboring McDonald’s. The building will be smaller than KFC, and will have a patio for customers on both sides.

There are plans to ensure safety for pedestrians in the parking lot, including the introduction of “revised and improved road circulation” and the creation of a new zebra.

Some locals opposed KFC’s plans, fearing the fast food restaurant would attract more unpleasant behavior to the shopping park and increase traffic problems. Gregs’ plan calls for “reduced demand for parking,” according to an analysis by transportation consultants.

The consultants added: “The proposed lanes for waiting customers can accommodate more vehicles than the approved fare, which alleviates congestion.”
